AEROBIC FITNESS

Another simple way to skate faster is to "train up" to a higher level of aerobic fitness. [If you can do more work you will be able to go faster]. The principles of aerobic conditioning are the same in every endurance sport. Skaters do all the same things that runners do in order to train up to higher levels of performance. This includes such activities as interval training, hills and long skates. In the end, most fast skaters put a lot of miles on their skates.

Most really serious skaters also put in a lot of time on a bicycle in order to train up their aerobic systems without doing too much damage to their bodies. (Cycling is significantly easier on the body) . I cross-train in a different way -indoor rowing.
